Public & Green Spaces
Introduction
With approximately one third of Ward 3 comprised of industrial and commercial space, tending to existing green spaces and strategically carving out more has been a key priority I have championed for our neighbourhoods.
Since 2018, I have had the pleasure of supporting and investing in a number of initiatives to enhance public spaces across our ward. Here is a high level breakdown of what we have achieved:
Parks Improvements - Installed 4 new playground structures, 1 epic splash pad, 13 water fountains, 2 improved basketball courts, and planted more trees in existing parks.
Public Art - award winning, functional public art at Century St Parkette, implemented the City’s first live graffiti walls in Woodlands Park, and invested in beautiful murals at Powell Park.
Depaves to enhance biodiversity - In partnership with Green Venture and the Barton Village BIA, implemented 5 depave sites on Barton St to enhance biodiversity, create much needed shade and mitigate heat islands while also beautifying City lands on this vital commercial and community corridor. Initiated the first city-led depave on Cavell Ave north of Barton St.
A comprehensive map is coming soon with location markers that will itemize and describe all of the initiatives and investments I have had the honour of championing.
