Community Standards and Guidelines

The Ward 3 social media pages are intended to inform and engage residents about important updates regarding:

  • City Council and Committee decisions and deliberations

  • City Services

  • Community meetings organized by the Ward 3 Office and the City of Hamilton

  • Community events and neighbourhood initiatives across #OurWard3

These pages are intentional online spaces that will be governed by the following guidelines.

Fostering a community of mutual respect and care

In Our Ward 3, we belong to each other.

In an effort to foster mutual respect, clear expectations and care among our online communities, we ask that all engagement, including any disagreements and/or criticism, be constructive and respectful. Insults, threats and/or harassment of staff and/or other users are not welcome nor will be tolerated.

The Ward 3 Office will delete and/or block any comment or communication that causes harm. These would include content that is:

  • Hateful, racist, xenophobic, homophobic, sexist, vulgar and/or deemed inappropriate and detrimental to the safety of our community.

  • Comments that don’t meet the City’s procedural by-law, which are comments that are defamatory, obscene, offensive, indecent, rude and/or vulgar.

  • Social media accounts that intentionally try to instigate conflict, hostility, arguments, or directly attack people by posting derogatory comments in these online social communities.

Responsiveness on social media

Our social media DMs and private messaging are not checked and will not be responded to.

We do our best to monitor the posts and comment sections on the content we share, and we may answer when appropriate.

If you have any City-related questions, concerns or requests that you would like our office to respond to, please email us at ward3@hamilton.ca

The Ward 3 Office is committed to answering each email and phone call that we receive in as timely a manner as possible, given the high volume of calls and emails and our limited staffing hours. If you believe we may have missed your call/email, and more than a week has passed, please address this by emailing ward3@hamilton.ca or calling 905-546-2107, not by posting on Social Media.

Councillor Nann also hosts a weekly engagement on Tuesday mornings called Coffee with Your Councillor on Facebook and Instagram live. This is another opportunity to get questions directly to the councillor.

Updates to our community standards and guidelines

As we review and receive feedback related to these standards, we will amend them to advance fostering a safer engaging space.

Please see the Community Standards created by and for social media platforms below:

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and mutual care.
